Why aren’t residents allowed to put up a prefab trailer or RV or even a tent on their own property? They should be able to start living on their property instead of being displaced in various locations, still having to pay their mortgage.

I hope those homeowners all had guaranteed replacement cost on their homes. They'd still be on the hook for making their mortgage payments and then paying rent until their homes can be rebuilt.

Thank you for these updates. My niece lives in the Opukea townhomes. The own one of the units that didn't burn, but had ash and smoke damage. It is so sad to see so much that was devastated; but also to see the progress of cleanup so people can rebuild their lives.

I spent the week, June 10-18 at westin nanea. have made 3 trips into Lahaina, surfing lessons, mala tavern and cannery, and sunday swapmeet. than you for your videos, adds a great perspective. I see lots of signage of Lahaina being stolen by FBI. Can you please explain. I will always remember my 2nd trip into town via Westin Shuttle bus, tears flowing as we passed destruction

Where does all the lumber come from?

As someone who lives in a beachfront community that has limits on STRs (in Oregon), I can tell you it 100% does make a difference to improve housing for the local workforce... No question... Yes, it helps... That doesn't mean banning all STRs is the solution, as you pointed out... But pointing out that expensive properties that are STRs won't be affordable and therefor banning STRs isn't going to work is at best misguided... Is banning all STRs the solution? Probably not... Is limiting STRs part of a much more complicated solution? It 100% can be... Could banning all STRs in some areas be part of the solution? It 100% could be... The owners and STR businesses will fight like heck against that because of the money in STRs, but that's just what money does. And for those saying banning STRs will kill tourism, you seem to forget that tourism existed quite well for a long time before STRs were a thing... SMH

With the Hawaiian Islands so far away from the Mainland, it's amazing to see how much cleanup has been done so far. I think the cleanup here is going much faster than in the 9th Ward of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. My heart still aches when seeing these drone flyovers, but so much Aloha for the People of Lahaina and glad to see a sort of normalcy slowly starting to return. Mahalo!

BS regarding the rise in the ocean.

I would like to hear from local families. Get updates on their perspective and how the process has been for them with their lot clearing, insurance coverage and insurance reimbursements, also what they look forward to with the new construction. I’m curious if the style/ innovation with drastically change, infrastructure improvements and what the community goal is for modernization. Thanks for this coverage, I had recently heard a completely different and less positive update, this was refreshing and I’m so happy for the families and small businesses owners who have some idea of when they’ll regain their properties.

That arson sent more alohans to Vegas. It is so depressing seeing them here…
